Aarvind's founder, Dr. Venkataswamy, now 74 years old, had begun it as a 20 bed hospital. By 1992 it had grown to 1400 beds and had tested 3.65 million patients and operated cataract surgeries on 335,000 patients. He managed to do 70% of these operations free of cost and helped the poorest blind population of India. He did not stop here. His goal was to spread the model of Aarvind to underprivileged parts of the world. This case is one of the steps towards developing an action plan.
