Timberland Co. being the manufacturer and retailer of footwear, outdoor apparel and accessories was determined to inculcate values for its employees, stockholders and consumers. The company had attempted to intense its focus on the providing community service. The entire objective of this commitment is to create a collaboration with the national youth community service organization City Year. The two company’s interaction set an example of an alliance between a non-profit and a profit maximizing organization. The case discusses the events in which the company continues to commit for community service despite the poor financial performances, which eventually lead to layoffs during 1995. In addition to this, the case throws light over corporate strategy, thus gives room for the students to evaluate the different activities and partners, and the breadth of the projects.
